My cohorts last for 6 weeks. Each session is only 30 minutes. You can have 1-4 classes/week. I teach children (age 8 and up) and adults.
The first two units can even be learned without being able to read and write in Tigrinya.
Cohorts start in:

My older sister was fluent in Tigrinya. So when she went to school, she was put into ESL. That deterred my parents from wanting to speak to me in Tigrinya. I would speak to them in English, and they would speak to me in Tigrinya. Usually, we would have like 60%, 65% understanding most of the time.
But it's really important to me, so I'll be able to speak, just a piece of who I am. And I feel like I should be able to know my language.
So I came to [Gaby for Tigrinya classes for 3 months].
Even if there's no quote-unquote monetary value attached to it, there's some other value attached to it.
I’ve been taking Tigrinya classes with Gaby for two terms now, and I’m genuinely looking forward to starting the third. From the beginning, she created a well-structured and thoughtful learning journey — starting with the basics and gradually tailoring the lessons to my personal goals and interests.
Gaby always comes well-prepared, checks in for feedback, and adapts the focus of the lessons based on what I want to learn. Each session combines vocabulary, sentence structure, conversation practice, and cultural context — making the learning process not only effective but also really enjoyable.
Even though the sessions are virtual, Gaby manages to create a warm, welcoming, and safe space to learn. I always feel encouraged to speak and try things out, without pressure or judgment. Her teaching style is both professional and personable, and the progress I’ve made is a testament to her dedication.
If you’re thinking about learning Tigrinya, I can wholeheartedly recommend learning with Gaby. It’s fun, it’s motivating, and it works.
HIM: Gaby has been amazing! She has turned a language that I felt like I would never learn into easy concepts. I look forward to learning from her for the foreseeable future. (He was a student for 6 months.)
HIS HABESHA WIFE: I just wanted to thank you again. These lessons have brought him and me a lot of joy. My family gets so excited when he shows them what he's been learning, and he loves to show off his new skills!
It was in a very safe space. It gave me confidence to actually try to speak Tigrinya. It's a very intimidating language but Gaby broke it down. And it wasn't just like the educational part of how to pronounce things, but also the culture that went behind it.
It gave me that motivation. It gave me confidence and it taught me the little rules that people who are native speakers forget that we (as learners) have to remember.
Gaby is an excellent teacher. [I took classes with her for 2 years.] Her classes are well-structured, yet she kindly adapted the material to my questions or interests.
As Gaby has learned Tigrinya herself, she is familiar with the challenges and difficulties of the language and can give helpful background information both on the language itself and the culture.
She has a charming way of pushing me out of my comfort zone to get me talking, and then waits patiently until I get my sentence together. She is also full of good ideas and tips for learning in between lessons. Thank you, Gaby!
